Outer Banks Home Owner's Insurance for you new home purchase will cover
several factors. If you live in a "Flood Zone," you lender will require
you to have federal flood insurance to cover the ground floor living
space. You home owner's insurance policy will cover
any liabilities to
the home or someone else entering your property that may get hurt. Wind
and hail insurance premiums will cover parts of the home that are not
covered under you regular home owners insurance policy. These
"Hurricane" policies can get very expensive if you are on the
oceanfront. Since Hurricane Katrina a few years back, many insurance
companies have change their guidelines, and made premiums higher that
what they were in years past.
If you own a home on the coast of North Carolina, or if you are planning
to buy or build a new home, you are probably aware of the risk of damage
from hurricanes, tropical storms, and nor’easters. To protect homeowners
and mortgage lenders from financial loss caused by such damaging storms,
the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) makes flood insurance
available in participating communities. This fact sheet (below) provides
answers to questions about how flood insurance premiums are determined.
