Kitty Hawk is where the Wright Brothers made their
first flight back in the beginning of the twentieth century.
It is one of the most recognized towns on the Outer Banks.
When it comes to real estate here,there are a few
things you should be aware of. One, Kitty
Hawk real estate on the Westside of highway 158 offers some
of the nicest communities for year-round living. There are
canalfront and soundfront homes on this side of the town.
When it comes to the east side of highway 158, you want to
be mindful of erosion along the beach road. The oceanfront
properties are generally endangered there. Wherever
possible, many of these homes have been moved back on their
respective lots. I generally do not recommend buying
property on the oceanfront in Kitty Hawk. If you are
sea arching the MLS for oceanfront homes and you see something
for under $500,000, there's a good reason forit. And that reason is.....IT MAY FALL INTO THE OCEAN. Once
a lot has lost enough land to the point where it cannot
accommodate a septic field it will lose most of its value.
Beach "pushes" are still common to protect this type of
land, but only provides a short-term solution to a long-term
natural occurrence..
