The Southern Shores community consists of several thousand
lots and homesites. This town started as a subdivision and
then was incorporated in 1979. Situated in a beautiful
coastal maritime forest, Southern Shores has many canal front
and sound front pro perties
which make it a convenient place for boating enthusiasts. Many of the streets are shaded
with a wide variety of deciduous trees which make running,
biking or any other form of exercise interesting. You will
also notice that Southern Shores has the largest homesites
when compared to almost every other subdivision on the Outer
Banks. If you decide to pay the minimal voluntary civic
association fee, you will be able to take advantage of the
many sound side parks, sound accesses, marinas, and
oceanfront parking which comes in handy on those busy summer

Most homesites (lots) are at least 20,000 square feet, so
you have plenty of room to build a new construction dream
home with a builder should you decide to want to design and
build the exact house that accommodates your Outer Banks
needs. As a Southern Shores realtor, I understand this
community intimately. You will find that this is more o r
less a year round and second home community, with the
investment properties on the Oceanside of Route 12. On the
Oceanside of highway 12, you will find the rental investment
property, yet on the Westside you will enjoy the peace and
quiet that this first class area has to offer. One
improvement underway is the dredging of the canals to the
sound front which will greatly improve access and property
values of canal front homes. You also have the many
conveniences of shopping right in town. Shopping is situated
on 158 near the Wright Memorial Bridge and includes
Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Food Lion, Harris Teeter and Fresh
